The University of Cape Verde is a HEI in Cape Verde. Until December 2019, it was only public university in the country and thus a reference for higher education in Cabo Verde.

UNICV offers several study programs in different levels: 4 doctoral programs, 14 Masters’ programmes, 41 Bachelor programmes and 9 technical vocational courses in various areas of training. In 2017 it had 4178 students enrolled in graduation programs distributed in 5 faculties and schools: Faculty of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts, Faculty of Science and Technology, Faculty of Education and Sports, School of Business and Governance, School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

It is involved in several national and international research projects, including student and staff mobility programmes and a total of 270 international agreements in 48 countries. UNICV also hosts several research centres, chairs and research groups that help sustain and consolidate its higher education offer, training and research.
Its mission is to:

Promote human development in its entirety, underlining the scientific, technical, ethical, social and cultural dimensions and seeking the highest quality standards.

Promote fundamental and applied research activities aimed at contributing to the development of the country

Promote the enterprising capacity of the society, contributing to the capacitation of human resources in priority areas for development

Contribute to the development and consolidation of international cooperation and dialogue between people, namely in the areas of education and knowledge, science and technology.

\

Contribute to the modernization of the educational system in Cabo Verde at all levels, namely through research, adoption and dissemination of new teaching methodologies and promotion of knowledge, through the use of information technologies.
