ASPEA, Portuguese Association for Environmental Education (EE) is a NGO with 1.200 associated, that are teachers, researchers, biologists, engineers, technicians and students.

ASPEA has 28 years of experience in the training of adults, teachers and youth in environmental education. ASPEA is affiliated to 4 In-Service Teacher Training centers & has run training courses since 2005 for educators, teachers and young adults in the area of EE, Sustainability, School Agenda 21, Arts and Environment, Citizenship and participation, Forests and Rivers, Values education and the Earth Charter, Energy and Climate Change. Since 2008 we have been continuously training apprentices from vocational schools and national and international young graduates in professional internships, at present there are 2 within our association.

ASPEA has taken part in several European projects for the development of educational resources for environmental education for sustainability, partnerships in education and volunteering. It is, since 1992, the Portuguese branch of the Foundation CEI - Caretakers of the Environment International. ASPEA is also an Affiliate Institution for the Earth Charter, since 2005. We are also part of the coordination of the Environmental Education Network of Portuguese Speaking Countries. Also, we are member in the UNESCO National Committee of UN Decade for Sustainable Development in Portugal and the UN Biodiversity Committee.

Regarding EE related projects, ASPEA has organized 24 national conferences, in different cities of Portugal, 1 international conference for teachers and other experts in EE and co-organized 2 international CEI conference for secondary students and teachers (1992 and 2015) as well as more than 10 Children and Youth Forums in Aveiro, since 2004. ASPEA is the national coordinator of the Iberian Rivers Project, has also run the program "Traveling in our Homeland") for several years and, since 2014, ASPEA is the coordinator of the EU Grundtvig Partnerships project PROMORIVER, aiming at promoting sustainable activities around rivers.
